NeighborhoodScout's Crime Index is a powerful, yet simple to understand crime rating on a 0-100 scale where 100 is safest. The Index is based on the crime rate per 1,000 population for all crimes in a specific neighborhood or city. A crime index of 80 means a neighborhood is safer than 80% of the neighborhoods in America, and a 50 means the neighborhood is safer than 50% of the neighborhoods in America.
At the neighborhood level, we provide these risk ratings for: Total Crime Risk, Violent Crime Risk, Property Crime Risk, Murder, Rape, Robbery, Assault, Burglary, Theft, and Motor Vehicle Theft. We also reveal a resident’s chances of becoming a victim in the location, the total crime rate, violent crime rate, and property crime rate, as well as the crime density per square mile for the neighborhood. All are compared to city and national averages for quick comparison. We even show the crime trends from 5 years ago to today, and forecast crime risk 5 years into the future. For every neighborhood.
